Becoming MI™

Learn from the person across from you.

Practice motivational interviewing with a fictional person who has their own reason for being there. In six exchanges, work toward one objective. Then see what you said, how they answered, and what you might try next.

Practice MI. Get feedback you can use.

Meet your practice partner, read the short introduction, and begin the conversation.

Your practice partner responds to what you say. At the end, review one exchange that mattered to the objective. You can open all six and compare them with an earlier attempt.

  1. Begin with the person.

Open the daily practice. The brief gives you a role and a fictional situation, with someone whose perspective is yours to explore.

  2. Have the conversation.

Use your MI skills with a simulated partner who responds to what you say.

  3. Get your feedback.

Review what stood out in your responses, with a specific moment from the conversation.

  4. Keep practicing.

Save a useful focus or try the conversation again. Your earlier session and feedback remain available.

Becoming MI

Our first understanding is a place to start.

What we believe is happening influences what we hear and what we say next. Practice gives us a chance to look more closely. The two chairs leave room for the other person to correct us. What we do with that correction is something we can practice.

Keep a thread of learning

Come back to what you noticed.

My practice progress keeps your first and latest reviewed examples for each objective. Revisit your words, check the person’s reply, and choose a focused exercise for the skill you want to strengthen.

AI feedback is provisional learning support. It has not been validated as a measure of MI proficiency. Human coding and consultation offer a separate way to examine practice.

Feedback and saved learning

Behavior counts, the summary and the suggested focus are provisional AI feedback for reflection, not validated MITI coding, certification, or proof of competence. Read them alongside your conversation. Saving a personal takeaway or journal entry is optional.

Attempts and daily reminders

Your allowance is used when the first AI reply is successfully saved. A conversation-practice session includes up to six exchanges and a final review. Functional Closure uses its own guided reflection and summary. Both draw from the same session allowance. Resuming or recovering a report does not use another allowance; trying again does. Deleting a conversation does not restore it.

Daily reminders are selected by default at signup and begin the day after email verification, around midday in your chosen time zone, including weekends. You can turn reminders off before joining or change their frequency, industry and time zone in your account. Every reminder has an unsubscribe link.

Privacy and your information

Use fictional details for conversation practice. Dialogue is sent to Anthropic for AI responses; your account saves the conversation, feedback and activity timing. AMIGA administrators can review completed practice conversations and AI feedback to support learning.

Functional closure can start with an experience of your own. Avoid identifying other people. Its dialogue is processed for AI responses and kept temporarily while the reflection is open. Saved summaries and optional journals remain private. Journals, personal takeaways and development check-ins are not sent for AI assessment. You can revisit and delete saved work in your account.
